16 CFR 1500.48, ASTM F963 4.8, EN-71 1998 8.2, ISO 8124, IS 9873(Part-1)

A tool called the Sharp Edge Tester is used to examine whether a toy's or item's edge poses an unreasonable risk of injury.

To check whether playthings' accessible edges are dangerous, use the Sharp Edge Tester. An accessible edge is being checked while a mandrel with self-adhesive PTFE tape connected to it is turned once 360 degrees. The edge of the tape is designated as a dangerously sharp edge if it is sliced in half or extends beyond that length (about 13 mm). This requirement applies both before and after use and abuse testing for toys designed for children under the age of eight.
